Which trends, technologies and markets do we need to understand today in order to be successful tomorrow? Our renowned conference addresses the entire value chain of the automotive industry - from OEMs to SMEs and start-ups to science - and offers a unique platform for interdisciplinary exchange. This is where innovative impetus is generated, pioneering solutions are discussed and new market potential for the automotive interior of the future is tapped.

Key learnings interior 2025

1. focus is shifting to UX as a key differentiator - inclusive user experiences
The user experience in the vehicle interior is not just a question of comfort, but is increasingly central to brand differentiation; design approaches in the vehicle interior are also increasingly coming into focus. The focus here is on user-friendly concepts that also appeal intuitively to people with cognitive or physical disabilities and thus improve accessibility for all user groups.

2. immersive lighting design transforms the interior into an emotional experience
Light is increasingly understood as an emotional interface in the vehicle interior. Targeted lighting design can be used to create moods, improve orientation and create individual user experiences - making light a central design element for atmosphere and brand identity.

3. sustainability is becoming a strategic priority for leading OEMs
Some manufacturers - including major brands such as BMW - are anchoring sustainability not only in the use of materials, but also holistically in their development and production processes. From CO₂-neutral plants to a consistent circular economy, it is clear that sustainability is no longer a secondary objective, but the strategic core of future brand positioning.

4. sustainable materials are ready for the market - but often fail due to costs
There are already sustainable solutions ready for series production that meet technical, haptic and legal requirements. Nevertheless, their widespread implementation remains hesitant - often because economic aspects (costs, scaling) are still unresolved.

5. market India: design is a success factor - not costs alone
Indian OEMs such as Mahindra & Mahindra show that high-quality, target group-relevant design is increasingly seen as a competitive advantage in the local market - even in the lower and medium price segments. Local design strategies determine market acceptance.

6. China demands an independent design language - adaptation is not enough
In the Chinese market, it is not enough to localize existing concepts. Design must be culturally and aesthetically rethought - for example through extended comfort functions in the rear or visible material, color and light staging.

7. personalization is becoming the industry standard
Buyers are increasingly demanding individual equipment options. Materials, colors, displays and lighting must be flexibly configurable. This requires modular production and design processes and is a clear trend in all markets.

8. biophilic design promotes health and brand loyalty
Natural surfaces, textures and color schemes not only create a pleasant feeling of space, but also strengthen the emotional brand experience. Biophilic concepts combine design aesthetics with mental regeneration.

9. the future needs new evaluation standards - emotion beats technology
The focus is no longer on technical features alone, but on the subjective experience: How does the interior feel? How easy is it to operate? The industry needs to focus its innovation metrics more on user experience.

10. interdisciplinary development teams lead to innovation
Successful interior concepts are created at the interface of materials science, design, lighting technology, ergonomics and digitalization. The conference emphasized: without interdisciplinary exchange, there can be no innovation.

"Interieur im Automobil x InSuM" conference - Shaping the future despite the industry crisis

Falling demand for e-mobility, forced production relocations, plant closures: The pressure on the automotive industry is higher than ever. At the same time, the demand for rapid adjustments and innovative solutions is growing in order to remain competitive in the long term.

Especially in these challenging times, the focus on future-oriented developments is crucial. The vehicle interior in particular is increasingly becoming a differentiating factor - it stands for comfort, design and digitalization and shapes the driving experience of the future. Innovations in materials, technologies and sustainable concepts can provide new impetus and open up market potential. But which trends, technologies and markets do we need to understand today in order to be successful tomorrow? Which requirements of different markets need to be taken into account in order to ensure long-term competitiveness?

Our specialist conference "Interieur im Automobil x InSuM" on May 13 & 14, 2025 at the Audi Sportpark Ingolstadt is dedicated to precisely these questions. For the first time over two days and together with InSuM, the Interior Hub for Sustainable Mobility, the event offers a unique platform for the entire value chain of the automotive industry - from OEMs to SMEs and start-ups to science.

Despite the current crisis in the industry, our aim is to highlight areas of opportunity and identify trends that will help companies to remain competitive in the future. Take this opportunity for an interdisciplinary exchange, inspiring impulses and valuable insights into the future of automotive interiors.

Immersive interior lighting

How light art turns the car into an emotional space
This keynote lecture conveys a completely new understanding of light. It looks at the way famous lighting artists think and work, transfers their lighting effects to the automotive interior and presents color-psychological and technological methods. After this lecture, you will see light with different eyes.

Rethink light. Create well-being.
The automotive industry has begun a fundamental change of perspective and is asking: How can we design a vehicle with the driver's well-being in mind? Light is the new answer. Light that doesn't just fulfill its usual function. Light that creates an immersive experience and plays a key role in the emotional well-being of the driver and passengers. If you are prepared to learn from lighting artists, you can completely redefine and use light.
