New Materials Cluster
Materials for the future - made in Bavaria
Bavaria is an international leader in "new materials" and "intelligent production" and has the best prerequisites to continue to play a leading role in the future. Around one million employees in 4,000 companies work in sectors that rely on innovations in the field of materials - from vehicle construction to wind turbines. The Bavarian New Materials Cluster aims to further boost the competitiveness of the Bavarian economy and accelerate growth.
"New materials" are a cross-sectional technology of great economic importance. Progress in materials development is an indispensable prerequisite for numerous product and system innovations. This applies to fiber composites, which have long been indispensable in many areas of vehicle construction and aviation, for example, as well as to technical ceramics for high-temperature lightweight construction or materials for printed electronics, which are used in OLEDs, for example.
Hand in hand for material innovation
Particularly in the field of materials, new developments require close and targeted cooperation between different technologies and sectors at an early stage. The characteristics of a component are inextricably linked to the material properties and the manufacturing process. For this reason, materials cannot be considered in isolation. Only the triad of material, process technology and design leads to successful innovations. Consequently, trusting cooperation along the process and value chains as well as cross-industry exchange are required.
The New Materials Cluster brings together companies and scientific institutes from a wide range of sectors. Today, over 500 companies and scientific institutes belong to the extensive network. Together with its stakeholders, partners and the advisory board, the New Materials Cluster analyzes technology trends, raises innovation potential in materials and processes and supports its stakeholders in finding partners for new product and project ideas. The cluster provides important impetus for new ideas, closes gaps in value chains and establishes the necessary regional, national and international networks.
