Networked mobility
Digitalization in the mobility sector
Mobility is a key factor in securing a society's prosperity and maintaining the competitiveness of its industry and service providers. The ability to get from one place to another enables people to maintain relationships, go to work or run errands. But it is also a basis for technical innovation and cultural development.
The current challenges of our time, such as climate change and advancing urbanization, have now affected almost every area of our lives, including mobility. Mobility permeates all facets of our everyday lives, whether in economic terms, such as the transportation of goods and services, or in social terms: it enables interpersonal relationships and participation in public life. Mobility is an important prerequisite for the prosperity of our society and at the same time shapes the form of our living spaces.
At the same time, it is important to consider the impact of mobility on our environment. The mobility sector accounts for around 20% of our CO2 emissions. What is also worrying is the fact that emissions have not only stagnated in recent years, but have actually increased. Our urban landscapes have changed profoundly due to the focus on automobility. Cars - mostly parked - dominate the cityscape in many places, even though cars are only used for an average of 45 minutes a day. There is a clear need for optimization here. Networked mobility offers the opportunity to use existing resources more efficiently and in a more demand-oriented way.
At the same time, it must be ensured that literally everyone gets a lift. Many people do not have access to mobility because they do not have a car, are not (allowed to) drive or there is no attractive public transport service in their area. Here, too, digitalization can help to better tailor mobility services to people's needs. This contributes to the upgrading of (rural) living spaces.
Last but not least, it must be ensured that everyone can travel safely and securely on the roads, regardless of their mode of transportation, age or physical abilities. We therefore see Vision Zero - the goal of avoiding traffic fatalities - as an important guiding principle for the mobility industry.
Mobility therefore plays out in a field of tension between climate protection, space efficiency, public health and social participation. At the same time, mobility is an economic driver and breeding ground for innovation.
This is where Bayern Innovativ's Networked Mobility team comes into play as an important partner. We network, support and promote all stakeholders in the mobility industry in the development of innovative solutions for the mobility of the future. We facilitate the transfer of knowledge between industry and science and bring established companies, start-ups, research institutions and local authorities together.
