eHUBS project strengthens shared mobility

The project eHUBS has set itself the goal of increasing the proportion of shared (shared) and electric mobility and thus making traffic in cities more environmentally friendly and efficient. To this end, a new mobility concept is being tested in Kempten (Allgäu), Amsterdam, Manchester, Nijmegen, Leuven and Dreux: the eHUBS.

What are eHUBS?

These are places where various sustainable e-vehicles are available for shared use, such as e-bikes, e-cargo bikes, e-scooters and / or e-cars. Users can choose from different options here according to their current needs. The hubs can look very different: from a mini-hub with only one or two parking spaces in a residential area to a large station, which has all the above-mentioned vehicle types and is located at a train station or major transport hub, everything is conceivable. With such a high-quality and diverse range of electromobility services, the need to own a car in the city is eliminated - making cities cleaner, more livable and more pleasant.

The right eHUB concept for every city

The eHUB implementation approach differs depending on the size and needs of the respective cities. The focus is to develop a guideline from best practices and accumulated experience that is transferable to all cities. Large-scale deployment of eHUBS and the use of shared e-vehicles instead of private cars would result in several positive aspects: For example, due to lower CO2 emissions, less air pollution and congestion in cities, not only would the quality of public space in cities improve, but at the same time the market for commercial shared e-mobility services would grow.

eHUBS consortium impresses with multidisciplinary expertise

The eHUBS consortium combines competence and expertise. Led by the city of Amsterdam, this consists of 15 partners, including European cities, international organizations, e-mobility service providers and universities. Bayern Innovativ will on the one hand support the city of Kempten (the only German city in the project) in the implementation of eHUBS and on the other hand create a guideline based on the gained project experiences, which will support other cities in establishing mobility stations.
