Automated driving is a key technology and has the potential to revolutionize safety, efficiency and sustainability in transport as well as create new opportunities for innovation and value creation. Bavaria is already well positioned with its strong innovation ecosystem of leading car manufacturers, suppliers, start-ups and research institutions.
Despite this strength, there is a gap in international competition between technological excellence and broad implementation in marketable products and business models. While the USA and China are gaining speed in the introduction of Level 4 driving functions, Germany is lagging behind in practical implementation.
Nevertheless, Bavaria's expertise offers the opportunity to catch up and take a leading role. In order to achieve this, investments in research and development, the promotion of cooperation and the expansion of intelligent infrastructure are necessary.
At the workshop "Establishing and scaling automated driving in Bavaria" initiated and moderated by Bayern Innovativ at the end of November 2024, concrete measures and recommendations for action were developed to drive forward autonomous mobility services in Bavaria.
