Seeking 3D scanning and digital twin solutions for robotic machining

June 15, 2026

A Slovenian company that develops and manufactures custom-made equipment and machinery is seeking support in the areas of 3D scanning and digital twin development as part of a research and development collaboration.

The goal is to develop a solution for the automatic generation of robot toolpaths for aluminum castings without the need to change grippers. In this process, a robot will use a 3D scanner to capture the geometry of the castings and then automatically calculate workpiece alignments, offset compensations, and precise machining parameters, with a target accuracy of approximately 0.1 mm.

The core of the project is the creation of a digital twin of the entire machining cell (robot, tool, table, and workpiece) to perform simulations, collision checks, and accuracy validations. The calculated programs and settings are then to be automatically transferred to the robot controller and integrated into production.

Partners Sought
We are seeking companies or research institutions of various sizes that can contribute expertise in 3D scanning and the development of digital twins. The project is currently in the development phase and is open to partners from all countries.
