Review: MedtecSUMMIT in focus - Telemedicine and AI - paths to better prevention and diagnostics

24.10.2025

The MedtecSUMMIT in focus at the Rudolf Virchow Center in Würzburg brought together around 50 experts, start-ups and established companies. The event provided a valuable platform for discussing current developments in digital diagnostics and made it clear that AI and digital technologies can sustainably improve medical care. The participants intensively discussed opportunities, challenges and the need for closer interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly in the areas of regulation, financing and data quality.

In his keynote speech, Prof. Dr. Bergmann presented the development from traditional human genetics to genomic medicine, which enables personalized therapeutic approaches. At the same time, the need for a secure data infrastructure, clear regulations on data sovereignty and sufficient funding was highlighted. Practical examples showed how AI is already speeding up diagnoses and supporting treatment decisions.

Discussions in panels and sessions highlighted the role of telemedicine and digital prevention as well as specific applications from healthcare and industry, including secure cloud solutions from AWS and AI-supported processes at AOK Bayern. It became clear that digital innovations can only deliver their benefits if end users are consistently involved, interdisciplinary collaboration is successful and person-centered approaches are pursued.

The guided tours of current research projects at the center, including AI applications in endoscopy, radiology and Parkinson's diagnostics, were particularly fascinating. Participants had the opportunity to engage in intensive discussions with the respective clinical departments. Overall, the MedtecSUMMIT in focus made it impressively clear that digital diagnostics and AI are among the key drivers of tomorrow's medicine.
