New Funding Framework for Charging Infrastructure Effective January 1, 2026
When it comes to the mobility of tomorrow, the Free State of Bavaria generally takes a technology-neutral approach. However, electric mobility is the most advanced and promising option for meeting climate protection goals. For this reason, the State supports the expansion of the charging infrastructure as a crucial prerequisite for the success of electric vehicles in the mass market. Against this backdrop, the funding program launched in 2017 will continue from January 1, 2026, under new funding guidelines.
The new funding guideline is deliberately designed to be flexible so that current needs and trends in electric mobility can be taken into account on a case-by-case basis. Consequently, in addition to new construction and modernization, the funding guideline also allows for the funding of publicly accessible or non-public charging points. However, not everything will always be eligible for funding. Rather, in the interest of a systematic and targeted expansion of Bavaria’s charging infrastructure, the respective funding framework conditions—including application deadlines, objectives, and funding budgets—will be defined in individual calls for proposals. Applications cannot be submitted outside of a call for proposals.
Within this funding framework, the Free State of Bavaria anticipates two calls for proposals per year.

What are the main requirements that must be met?
Despite the flexibility of the guideline, the calls for funding generally require the following funding specifications and conditions, among others:
- Charging location in Bavaria
- No early start of measures. The award of a delivery or service contract attributable to the execution is deemed to be the start of the measure.
- No funding for expenditure outside the respective project duration
- No funding for own contributions
- Prohibition of accumulation
- Construction and installation of the subsidized charging points by qualified personnel
- Funding notice at the charging point (sticker provided)
- Regular reporting
How do I apply for the grant?
The application process consists of a single stage. Applications are submitted via the project management organization’s electronic application system. Applications are generally not processed on a first-come, first-served basis, but rather according to a selection process defined in the respective call for proposals.
