A green and sustainable healthcare industry does not work. Or does it? Where patient safety is so important and disposable products are the order of the day for hygienic reasons? Bayern Innovativ is committed to finding ways and means for more sustainability in the healthcare system.

The healthcare industry in Germany faces the challenge of developing innovative and effective solutions while acting sustainably. With a share of 5.2% of Germany's total CO2 emissions and 5% of total raw material consumption, the sector has a considerable ecological footprint. At the same time, the industry's economic importance offers immense potential for positive change.

Through our diverse projects and initiatives, we contribute to the promotion of sustainable innovations in the healthcare sector and help to overcome ecological and economic challenges.

Alliance for sustainable medical technology

The Alliance for Sustainable Medical Technology is an initiative launched by BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg, BIOVOX Connect and Bayern Innovativ Gesundheit (formerly FMP e.V.) to support companies in the medical technology sector in the implementation of sustainability strategies.

Sustainable Plastics 4 MedTech - SuPlaMed

The cross-cluster project Sustainable Plastics 4 MedTech (SuPlaMed) is a cooperation between the Industrial Biotechnology Cluster (CIB) and the Medical Technology Cluster (CMT). The aim of the project is to tap into the potential of bioplastics for more independent and sustainable medical technology and make it better known.

MeDiCircle Circular & Digital Medtech

Circular economy, sustainability and recycling - these important topics have also become indispensable in the healthcare sector. Nevertheless, a survey conducted by Forum MedTech Pharma e.V. showed that they play a rather subordinate role despite their high relevance in day-to-day business. For example, only a quarter of the companies surveyed stated that they were involved in the area of environmental sustainability, even though the healthcare industry in Germany is responsible for 5.2% of global CO2 emissions.
