The Competence Network Digital Agriculture Bavaria (KNeDL)

Working together for a smart and sustainable agriculture

Join us in shaping the agricultural world of tomorrow - practical, networked and digital. As an initiative of the Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Tourism, KNeDL brings together committed players from practice, research and industry. Our aim is to promote exchange and cooperation at eye level and to integrate innovative solutions directly into agricultural practice. The network pools forward-looking ideas and knowledge - for an agriculture that opens up new opportunities, conserves resources and inspires future generations through digital innovation.

Agriculture in the 21st century is facing major challenges: Climate change, increasing demands on animal welfare and biodiversity as well as the need for high-quality food with transparent origins.

In order to meet these requirements and at the same time strengthen traditional family farms in Bavaria, digitalization offers a wide range of new opportunities to make agricultural processes more efficient, sustainable and future-proof: Precise sensor technology and intelligent machines enable resource-conserving farming, while data analysis and AI can support well-founded decisions.

Such innovations enable modern agriculture that protects the climate, reduces the consumption of natural resources and optimizes production at the same time.

In order to keep Bavaria's agriculture competitive and socially accepted, cooperation at all levels is crucial. The Digital Agriculture Competence Network (KNeDL) promotes the exchange between business, science, associations and government agencies and extends this dialog beyond the boundaries of the agricultural sector and the Free State of Bavaria. In this way, the KNeDL creates valuable synergies and jointly develops innovative approaches for a sustainable future for agriculture in order to secure the diversity and strength of local farms in the long term.

Become a part of this creative "ecosystem" for research, technology and innovation. Network and support each other in an interdisciplinary way, exchange ideas with various players in digital agriculture and help shape the future of sustainable agriculture in our network!

Focus topics

The focus topics in our network are listed below. They form the basis for our orientation and daily work.
Under the respective topics you will find important information on campaigns, knowledge transfer and cooperation.

Field robotics is revolutionizing agriculture by using autonomous machines that perform tasks such as sowing, weeding and harvesting precisely and efficiently. This technology significantly reduces the workload for farmers and at the same time helps to increase productivity and sustainability.

The digital barn uses modern technologies such as sensors and automation to make animal husbandry more efficient and animal-friendly. These innovations enable continuous monitoring of animal health and optimize feeding and care processes, resulting in improved productivity and sustainability.

Data management in agriculture enables the efficient collection, analysis and use of farm data to make informed decisions. By using digital tools, farmers can optimize their production processes, conserve resources and increase the sustainability of their farms.

eCommerce in agriculture opens up new sales markets and distribution channels for farmers by allowing them to sell their products directly to consumers online. These digital marketplaces enable greater reach and transparency, which leads to better prices and stronger customer loyalty.

Vertical farming is revolutionizing agriculture by enabling the cultivation of crops in multi-layered, controlled environments. This method maximizes yield in the smallest possible space and reduces water consumption, leading to more sustainable and efficient food production.

Smart energy systems in agriculture use modern technologies such as sensors and automated controls to optimize energy consumption and efficiently integrate renewable energy sources. These systems help to lower operating costs and reduce environmental impact, leading to more sustainable agricultural production.

Artificial intelligence is already widely used in agriculture and is already helping to accurately predict weather conditions, pest infestations and crop yields, among other things. By using AI, farmers can work more efficiently and make more targeted use of resources.

Cybersecurity in agriculture protects digital systems and data from threats such as hacker attacks and data loss. By using security measures and technologies, farmers can effectively secure their operational processes and sensitive information, ensuring the reliability and integrity of their digital infrastructure.
