Forum Textil 2026: Textilien für Schutz und extreme Umgebungen
1. July 2026
09:00 - 17:30
Chat GPT,
Technical textiles play a crucial role when it comes to protection, safety, and use in extreme conditions. Whether in industry, among emergency responders, in safety-critical sectors, or in demanding environments—textile solutions are becoming increasingly innovative, high-performance, and versatile.
At Forum Textil 2026, we will focus on these developments. The one-day event brings together experts from industry, research, and application to shed light on current innovations, new technologies, and future potential in the field of protective textiles.
As a textile network, we deliberately approach the topic from the perspective of textile technology—from new fibers and coatings to functional materials and intelligent textile systems. At the same time, we look beyond traditional applications: smart textiles open up entirely new possibilities, such as through integrated sensors for monitoring environmental conditions, tracking stress levels, or analyzing physiological parameters. Such solutions can help identify risks early on, increase safety, and better protect people in demanding work and operational situations.
The forums objectives are:
- to present current innovations in the field of technical protective textiles
- to highlight new technological developments and applications
- to provide impetus for future solutions
- to bring together stakeholders
In addition to technological developments, we also want to shed light on the users’ perspective: What requirements arise in safety-critical environments? What solutions will be needed in the future? And what role can textile innovations play in this context?
With its robust research landscape and innovative industry, Germany—and Bavaria in particular—possesses extensive textile expertise that can make decisive contributions in this field.
The Textile Forum offers a platform to showcase precisely these capabilities, initiate new collaborations, and discuss the future of technical textiles for protection and extreme environments.
We invite you to join us for an informal networking evening the night before the conference.
In a relaxed atmosphere, you’ll have the opportunity to get to know each other early on, make new connections, and get in the right frame of mind for the topics of the following day.

Fabian Schreiber,
Due to climate change, high ambient temperatures are reached in European countries in summer, which can cause heat strain on workers. Cooling the body can avoid overheating during work and will become increasingly important. Personal protective equipment (PPE) with cooling function is an innovative PPE. In Europe, PPE must be certified according to EU-PPE regulation 2016/425. PPE certification is preceded by comprehensive material, design, and functional tests in specialized laboratories which are in most cases determined by European standards. For PPE with cooling function, no European or international standard is available. Important step to bring PPE with cooling function in the market is the development of appropriate testing procedures and of harmonized product standards. The talk shows an overview about the integration of cooling function, the testing and the development of a new product standard for cooling PPE.
The impact of high-performance heat-resistant fibers on the protective performance of modern combat suits
Margarita Schäfer,
Modern operational scenarios impose increasingly complex and often conflicting requirements on combat suits: high levels of thermal and mechanical protection combined with low weight, mobility, and sustained wearer comfort. In addition to garment design, the selection of suitable textile materials becomes a key factor in ensuring both performance and safety of soldiers.
This presentation first outlines the core requirements for modern combat suits and examines the resulting trade-offs. It then identifies the contribution of high-performance, inherently heat-resistant fibers to protective performance. Particular attention is given to properties such as flame and heat resistance, structural stability, and their impact on comfort and functionality.
Considering a wide range of deployment scenarios - from field operations to use in vehicles, naval environments, and aircraft - the presentation demonstrates how advanced fiber technologies help balance protection, ergonomics, and operational effectiveness. Selected material solutions are illustrated using Kermel fibers as a representative example.

Robert Jarausch,
The term “multifunctional protective clothing” has become ubiquitous and is actively sought after by end users. At the same time, there is economic pressure to reduce the number of different specialized outfits—while maintaining at least the same level of performance, and ideally improving it.
This requires a reevaluation of traditional concepts, starting with the fiber.
The presentation addresses this market demand and uses the example of the PTX™ - PyroTex fiber to demonstrate the possibilities for meeting these requirements.
Klaus Smolik,
Historical origin is based on the development of NBC protective materials for military use.
Together with several international projects and each forces in and outsides Europe NBC protective systemes have been developed, produced and delivered.
It was obvious to enter the field of nuclear protetive clothing for nuclear power plants.
The following dismantling was a challenge for developing necessary clothing.
To combine heat-, welding protection and nuclear protection with clothing physilogical properties is an intresting challenge.
Also the interrelationship of the different norms is complex.<button aria-expanded="false" aria-hidden="true" aria-label="29.
