Successful SME start-up cooperation: successfully scaling sustainability

Innovation through cooperation - that is the aim of the pilot project Cooperation between SMEs and start-ups. One example of the success of this project is the collaboration between the start-up TELUSIO and ANSMANN. Together, the partners are laying the foundations for a sustainable and future-proof product strategy.

ANSMANN AG, based in Assamstadt, Germany, is an international company that has specialized in mobile energy products since 1991. Its portfolio includes battery packs, chargers, power supply units, drive systems, LED lighting and power banks. With around 400 employees and an annual turnover of 75 million euros, ANSMANN is one of the leading providers of innovative energy systems.

TELUSIO GmbH is a young technology company from Munich, founded in 2023 as a spin-off of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. With the support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, TELUSIO is pursuing the goal of supporting manufacturing companies in the development of climate-neutral products. The AI-supported software enables precise, automated and ISO-compliant calculation of the product carbon footprint (PCF).

The cooperation project

ANSMANN AG is pursuing ambitious sustainability goals: In 2025, the company aims to become climate-neutral in terms of energy generation and consumption. At the same time, there is a need to prepare for the requirements of the EU Battery Regulation and the battery passport. Missing or incorrect CO2e calculations can lead to market bans, loss of sales, reputational damage and fines.

ANSMANN found the right partner in the start-up TELUSIO, which can perform the footprint calculation automatically for the product portfolio. The aim of the cooperation project is to establish a scalable and ISO-compliant solution for CO2 calculation that creates transparency about the environmental impact of products and minimizes regulatory risks.

ANSMANN contributes the product data and the strategic sustainability goal, while TELUSIO provides the technological basis: software that automatically calculates and scientifically evaluates CO2 values. Together, the partners are laying the foundations for a sustainable and future-proof product strategy.

"Regulatory requirements make it essential to calculate the carbon footprint of the products we sell. We wanted to ensure that we meet the requirements and create sustainable competitive advantages at the same time."

Sustainability Manager and Compliance, ANSMANN AG

Establishing contacts at the B2B Demo Day in Nuremberg

The two companies met for the first time at the B2B Demo Day (07.03.24). TELUSIO and ANSMANN launched a pilot project together: processes were initially tested using five products, data gaps were identified and a scalable solution was developed. TELUSIO impressed with its software, which automatically recognizes materials, assigns emission values and creates ISO-compliant reports. The successful calculation of the first CO2 footprint forms the basis for further scaling.

"Our partnership with ANSMANN brings CO2 transparency to the battery industry - in line with the digital battery passport and a climate-conscious future."

Dr. Johannes Weibl
Founder and Managing Director TELUSIO

The results at a glance

  • Efficient and precise calculation of the CO2 footprint
  • Transparency across the entire supply chain
  • Scalability to the entire product portfolio
  • Compliance with regulatory requirements and ISO-compliant reports
