On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), the Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe e. V. (FNR) has published the new call for funding "Wood-based Panel Industry 4.0".
The aim is to develop practical solutions that actively shape the transformation of the industry against the backdrop of current challenges such as raw material availability, energy prices and outdated production sites.
The wood-based materials industry is under increasing pressure: the composition of available raw materials is changing, product requirements are rising and modern greenfield investments are mostly taking place outside Germany. At the same time, topics such as Industry 4.0, digitalization, climate protection and resource efficiency are becoming increasingly important.
The call for funding is aimed at individual and joint projects with direct industry involvement that create added value for consumers, the environment and the economy through innovative approaches. Special funding priorities are
- Development of low-emission and harmless binding agents as an alternative to fossil products
- Increasing the use of hardwood in the production of wood-based materials
- Efficient use of recycled wood
- Digitalization and technological modernization
- Reduction of VOC emissions (volatile organic compounds)
- Unconventional and disruptive innovation approaches
The initiative is part of the overarching Timber Construction Initiative (HBI) and the Charter for Wood 2.0, with which the BMEL promotes the sustainable use of wood as a climate-friendly material and supports innovations in the field of wood-based materials.
The deadline for submitting project outlines is July 31, 2025.
Projects must make a demonstrable contribution to the innovative strength and relevance of wood-based materials.
Interested parties can find more information on the funding call on the FNR website.
