The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) has launched the 2026 bidding process for CO₂ difference contracts.

The program is intended to support energy-intensive companies in switching to low-CO₂ production processes.

Up to five billion euros are available for the funding round. Projects from the chemicals, cement, glass, metals and paper sectors are among those receiving funding. The funding offsets the additional costs of climate-friendly technologies compared to conventional processes over 15 years.

The program was revised after the first round in 2024 and made more technology-neutral. In future, CCU/S technologies and pure process heat projects will also be eligible for funding. In addition, rules on emission reductions and project durations have been made more flexible.

Companies can submit their bids until September 7, 2026.
