“LichtBlick eMobility GmbH” has now put fast-charging stations equipped with battery storage systems into operation. This is intended to help avoid grid bottlenecks.
According to the company, the green electricity provider currently has 27 locations in operation at Familia, Markant, and Edeka stores in northern Germany. Two new fast-charging stations with battery storage have been added to the network. The storage systems in Stralsund and Heiligenhafen each have a capacity of 330 kW and a storage duration of two hours. According to a company statement, they enable high charging rates even when grid connection capacities are limited. In addition, the systems can balance out peak loads, thereby supporting the efficient operation of the charging infrastructure.
“We are evaluating the use of battery storage wherever it can meaningfully complement the development of new charging infrastructure,” explained Simon Schröder, Head of Project Management at Lichtblick E-Mobility.
By 2030, the company plans to invest more than 100 million euros in the e-mobility sector alone. In addition, Lichtblick is currently building a large-scale battery storage facility in Röhrsdorf near Chemnitz with a capacity of approximately 100 MW. The goal is to relieve strain on the power grids while simultaneously providing additional flexibility for an increasingly renewable energy system.
