6G-IA publishes Position Paper for the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework (2028–2034)

August 3, 2027

Europe’s digital infrastructure needs long-term investment: In its new position paper, the 6G-IA calls for more funding and a coordinated strategy for 6G, communications networks, and digital sovereignty.

The 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA) has published its Position Paper on the EU Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2028–2034. The paper calls for the establishment of a dedicated Union–Private Side Joint Undertaking under FP10 and the European Competitiveness Fund to develop Europe's future Connected Digital Fabric.

According to the 6G-IA, advanced connectivity is the foundation of Europe's digital infrastructure and will be essential for artificial intelligence, cloud services, software, and digital sovereignty. Building on the success of the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU), the association advocates significantly increased investment, stronger involvement of EU Member States, and a coordinated European approach to 6G throughout the 2028–2034 funding period.

In addition to the full Position Paper, the 6G-IA has also published a concise two-page summary outlining its key recommendations.

The association also recently presented the results of its second member consultation on the 2027 work programme and has launched a new consultation on the draft WP2027 V2.0. 6G-IA members are invited to submit their feedback by 4 September 2026.
