Profile

The chair teaches urban design at the undergraduate level for architecture students (3.5 research assistants for teaching). In addition to the compulsory lecture Urban Planning 1 in the 5th semester, exercises are held and urban planning designs are supervised. Research is conducted via third-party funding, currently the BMBF research project "Future Munich 2030" is in the final phase (2 employees).

.

Technology

The chair has three main research areas: 1. Density in the City Here, work is currently being done on a computer tool that can display the shading of urban designs in a dynamized manner for the daylight period of a day in a 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional manner and calculate the sunlit/shaded area fractions. 2. Mobility and Communication in Urban Regions In the context of the BMBF research project "Future Munich 2030", the chair developed the topic area "Mobility and Communication" for the urban region of Munich. The final report has been completed and is available in printed form as of 1.9.2003. 3. solar energetic urban development The chair is particularly concerned with the application possibilities in the compact city. With the help of the tool described in 1. the compact city is to be examined more exactly at exemplary situations. The goal is to be able to optimize urban planning designs in a solar energy-friendly way.
