Technology / Research
Fraunhofer IPK offers comprehensive expertise across the entire fusion energy value chain. In the field of production engineering, the institute focuses on innovative technologies for manufacturing components from challenging materials:
- Additive manufacturing of tungsten, copper, and high-performance materials that are difficult to weld using electron beam melting and cold gas spraying
- Development of novel cooling structures and manufacturing processes for efficient heat dissipation in the smallest of spaces
- Ultra- and high-precision machining of metallic and ceramic materials, enabling the production of complex geometries with the highest precision
Products / Services
The Fraunhofer IPK actively supports companies in the development and integration of future-proof manufacturing approaches. This includes feasibility studies, process development, prototype manufacturing, as well as simulation and materials testing. The development and optimization of process chains for the manufacture of innovative components is a core competency. Through applied research and product support, the institute offers solutions for complex components and manufacturing processes that are directly applicable to fusion facilities.
