The Institute for Textile Engineering at RWTH Aachen University (ITA) ranks among the top five institutes in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University in terms of patent applications, revenue, and number of employees, making it one of the largest institutes at RWTH Aachen University overall. The institute’s core competencies lie in the

  • development of textile machinery and components,
  • new materials,
  • new processes for the manufacture of textiles,
  • new textile structures, and new products (e.g., fiber-reinforced composites, medical textiles).

As part of its academic offerings, the ITA provides training in the following areas: Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Textile Engineering, Industrial Engineering with a specialization in Textile Engineering, and vocational school teacher training for upper secondary level.
