The core of Ambient Intelligence or Ubiquitous Computing is the introduction of microelectronics into everyday objects. Networking these systems creates an intelligent environment that does not need to be operated by humans, but already reacts to their presence. . The goal of Future-Shape is to turn the vision of ambient intelligence into feasible and useful applications. We see the robustness and the simplicity of operation of such complex systems as the great challenge for the technology of the future.
We develop concepts and platforms for innovative applications in areas such as intelligent textiles, smart floors, RFID technology and service robotics. This can be used to realize decisive advantages over conventional solutions, ranging from cost reductions in the healthcare sector and building management to improvements in the logistics sector and increased personal safety.
Our specialty is large-area sensor systems that are seamlessly integrated into the environment and can give floors, glass surfaces and walls completely new functions. This enables previously passive elements in the familiar environment to interact with people. The goal is to realize applications that offer people assistance in their daily lives while allowing the necessary technology to recede into the background to such an extent that it is - at best - no longer visible. In this way, new services can be offered in the areas of building automation, comfort and personal safety. In the area of shopfitting and trade fair construction, our sensor systems can be used to create spectacular effects, such as worlds of light and sound that react interactively to visitors.
