Can Menopause Be Detected by the Voice? The MENOSTIK research project at TUM University Hospital is investigating how voice characteristics, wearable data, and artificial intelligence can help detect hormonal changes early and noninvasively. The presentation provides insights into the current state of research, innovative approaches, and the opportunities and limitations of this new diagnostic method.
Can you hear menopause? Hormones affect our entire body—often so subtly that we don’t even notice the changes ourselves. In the MENOSTIK research project at TUM University Hospital, we’re investigating whether voice characteristics, combined with wearable data such as heart rate, body temperature, and sleep, can serve as digital biomarkers for perimenopause. To do this, we combine repeated voice recordings and continuous sensor data with clinical hormone measurements and analyze them using artificial intelligence. The presentation will highlight the current state of research, introduce MENOSTIK’s research approach, and discuss the opportunities and limitations of earlier, noninvasive detection of hormonal changes in the future.
Beatrice Aretz is an engineer, AI researcher, and doctoral candidate at TUM Medical Center. She leads the MENOSTIK research project, which investigates how hormonal changes can be detected early using AI, voice analysis, and wearable data. As the founder of Caona Health and the Femtech Deutschland Association, she advocates for evidence-based and data-driven women’s health.
