Immerse yourself in the world of interior design.

On February 13, 2025, the Spaces Of Mobility event series kicked off in cooperation with bayern design. The first event, entitled Interior Spaces, was held at the Steelcase Innovation and Learning Center in Munich together with the Interior Hub for Sustainable Mobility (InSuM), which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The inspiring location provided the perfect setting for discussing innovative approaches to vehicle interior design and learning from other industries.

Interdisciplinary exchange between design and industry

The event brought together numerous representatives from the automotive industry - including OEMs, SMEs and designers. The aim was to bring design and industry closer together and gain new impetus for the design of future vehicle interiors.

Learning from other industries: New perspectives for vehicle interiors

A central theme of the event was the question of what the vehicle interior of the future can learn from other industries - especially the office and working world. Companies such as Steelcase show that innovative office furnishings create feel-good spaces that have a positive effect on people's productivity and satisfaction. These principles can be applied to vehicle interiors to create a pleasant and user-centered experience.

Neuroarchitecture and biophilia - a focus on well-being

Particular attention was paid to the influence of neuroarchitecture and biophilia on interior design. People spend most of their day indoors, but at the same time long for a natural environment. In order to create a comfortable atmosphere in the vehicle interior, natural elements must therefore be integrated into the design. Aspects such as light, acoustics, air quality and room temperature play a decisive role in the well-being of the occupants.

Expert input and innovative approaches

Three renowned speakers provided exciting insights into pioneering concepts:

  • Rüdiger Müller, Audi AG presented the Audisphere concepts, which already address key factors such as acoustics, lighting design and natural materials in vehicle interiors.
  • Elena de Kan, Steelcase, impressively explained the demands the human brain places on the environment in order to feel comfortable - an essential insight for vehicle interior design.
  • Andreas Wlasak, Forvia, used specific examples to show that innovative solutions are already available today and can also be implemented economically.

Impressions

Panel discussion and networking

The event concluded with an inspiring panel discussion in which the speakers provided valuable insights and discussed challenges and opportunities in vehicle interior design with the audience. During the subsequent networking with drinks and culinary highlights, the direct exchange was deepened and new connections were made between designers and industry representatives.

The kick-off event of the Spaces Of Mobility series impressively demonstrated how interdisciplinary approaches can shape the vehicle interior of tomorrow. The close interlinking of design expertise and technological innovation opens up new potential for sustainable and user-friendly interiors - a decisive success factor for the mobility of the future.

These are ten key learnings from the "Spaces Of Mobility: Interior Spaces" event

  1. Interdisciplinary collaboration is essential
The close integration of design, industry and science leads to innovative solutions for vehicle interiors.
  2. Office and working environments as a source of inspiration
Principles from modern office design, such as feel-good spaces and increased productivity, can be transferred to vehicles.
  3. Neuroarchitecture improves well-being
The design of interiors should be geared towards human needs in order to promote comfort and relaxation.
  4. Biophilic design increases user satisfaction
Natural elements such as light, plants and materials can significantly improve well-being in vehicle interiors.
  5. Acoustics, light and air quality are crucial
These factors significantly influence the perception and user experience of vehicle occupants.
  6. Innovative materials enable sustainable design
The integration of new materials can offer both ecological and economic benefits.
  7. Technology and design go hand in hand
Smart concepts such as audiospheres or adaptive lighting design can optimize comfort in the vehicle.
  8. The human brain has specific requirements for rooms
Well thought-out interior design can reduce stress and increase the feeling of well-being - even in the vehicle interior
  9. Innovative ideas can be implemented economically
Pioneering concepts can already be realized today. Appropriate solutions are already available from suppliers at affordable prices.
  10. Networking promotes innovation
The exchange between designers and industry representatives is crucial for driving new ideas forward.

The kick-off event of the Spaces Of Mobility series impressively demonstrated how interdisciplinary approaches can shape the vehicle interiors of tomorrow. The close interlinking of design expertise and technological innovation opens up new potential for sustainable and user-friendly interiors - a decisive success factor for the mobility of the future.

The series will continue on 05.06.2025 with "Urban Spaces'".

Spaces of Mobility" event series

Interior Spaces - Well-being in the vehicle interior

The mobility landscape is undergoing radical change: networked mobility, autonomous driving, shared mobility and alternative drive systems are just some of the drivers that are bringing about fundamental changes in the automotive value chain. At the same time, social and economic developments are calling for new perspectives and innovative approaches: A digitized, flexible and individualized society poses unprecedented challenges for mobility design.

First event: Interior Spaces - Well-being in the vehicle interior

Immerse yourself in the world of interior design and discuss with us how well-being, individualization, health and sustainability can be rethought in digital, (partially) autonomous vehicles. As part of the federally funded transformation hub InSuM (Interior Hub for Sustainable Mobility), together with our event partner bayern design, we invite you to the kick-off event of the "Spaces of Mobility" series, which deals with the most pressing questions and future topics of mobility design.

Who is the event aimed at?

  • Mobility designers,
  • Companies in the automotive industry (OEMs, suppliers),
  • mobility companies and
  • Experts from related disciplines

Why you should attend:

This series of events offers you the opportunity to network with forward-thinking individuals and decision-makers in the industry and work together on the challenges and opportunities of mobility design.
