The current health data infrastructure lacks interoperability and interfaces at various levels at national and international level.

The current healthcare data infrastructure lacks interoperability and interfaces at various levels at national and international level. A preferred solution to this is "personal health data spaces", which place the individual at the center of data aggregation and create new opportunities for AI and ML solutions for decentralized care.
The Insight will present the core idea of decentralized personal health data spaces and give an outlook on some possibilities for the future "digital" healthcare system. Specific research projects will be discussed that deal with the technical infrastructure for a personal health data room and with the provision of data from "digital health studies" (in the fields of immunology, neurology, women's health and others) for this data room.

Prof. Dr. Bjoern Eskofier currently heads the Institute for AI in Medicine at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU). Until September 2025, he headed the Machine Learning and Data Analytics (MaD) Lab at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). Since April 2023, he has been deputy project manager and head of the "Translational Digital Health" research group at Helmholtz Zentrum München.
