Artificial intelligence (AI) will profoundly change emergency medicine.
Many AI applications are already ready for use in emergency care, but the horizon of what is possible is not yet clear. AI could be particularly valuable in emergency medicine with its characteristics of urgency, uncertainty and complexity. However, there are still unresolved issues, such as the acceptance of AI recommendations that can no longer be understood due to their black box decision-making processes.
