The "QuantumTech Vision Bavaria" roadmap presented in November 2021 aims to show ways in which the excellent starting position of Bavarian quantum research can be transferred to industrial value creation. The 38-page roadmap was drawn up by Bayern Innovativ together with over 80 experts from top-level research, companies and start-ups on behalf of the three Bavarian State Ministries for Digital Affairs, for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy and for Science and the Arts.

The roadmap describes the current developments of the various technologies and important future trends. The focus is on the areas of quantum computing/simulation, software, communication and sensor technology.
The roadmap underlines our Bavarian claim to leadership in quantum technologies. After all, we are the only place where expertise in digital technologies of the future is concentrated, from science to teaching and application in industry. We have also taken advantage of this in the creation of our QuantumTech Vision. High-caliber working groups have developed strategies to establish a flourishing quantum tech industry in Bavaria: For example, securing our data worthy of protection from decryption by quantum computers is a key issue for the future. That is why we need to start thinking about the development of technological components, software and management systems for quantum-resistant data security today. I would like to thank everyone involved for their valuable commitment. The plan is in place and we can now hit the ground running to transfer quantum knowledge from basic research to companies. This will take Bavaria to the next level.
Judith Gerlach
Bavarian State Minister for Digital Affairs
Quantum technologies open up enormous application potential for the Bavarian economy across all sectors. Numerous start-ups and companies from Bavaria are already successfully engaged in the research and development of quantum technologies and are among the world's spearheads. The roadmap for the 'QuantumTech Vision Bavaria' contributes to transferring the valuable know-how from Bavarian research into economic value creation. Our aim is to ensure that future technologies and applications come from Bavaria. As the Ministry of Economic Affairs, we are therefore supporting the Bavarian quantum initiative Munich Quantum Valley with 150 million euros from the Hightech Agenda Plus. Together with the Ministry of Science, this amounts to a total of 300 million euros.
Hubert Aiwanger
Bavarian State Minister for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Bayern Innovativ GmbH
Quantum technologies are among the key success factors for our science and economy of tomorrow. Excellent research and training in the field of quantum sciences and technologies is already taking place here in Bavaria today. As part of the High-Tech Agenda Plus, we are investing a total of 300 million euros in this future-oriented area, of which around 150 million euros are being invested by the Ministry of Science alone. We want to attract the best minds and top-class scientists from the various fields of quantum technologies to Bavaria as a science location and ensure that our students receive the best education in this future-oriented field.
Bernd Sibler
Bavarian Minister of State for Science and the Arts
In the coming years, current research will open up areas of application for quantum technologies in a wide range of industries - for example in healthcare, the mobility sector, IT security, the financial sector, metrology and medical technology. Quantum technologies will have a significant impact on numerous industrial applications in the future. It is therefore important to invest in knowledge and technologies at an early stage in order to remain competitive on the global markets in the long term.
