Automated Wind-Powered Propulsion Solution for Ships

A French company is offering an automated, fully retractable wind-powered propulsion solution for ships and is seeking a partner to conduct a field test of the first commercialized unit, the W170.
The technology is designed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions in shipping.

The solution consists of an inflatable sail/wing system with an area of 170 m², suitable for ships ranging in length from approximately 25 to 90 meters. It can be used as the primary propulsion system or in combination with the ship’s engines and is designed for various types of vessels, such as tankers, cargo ships, RoRo ships, bulk carriers, and passenger ships. The company offers technical support for integration, coordination with the classification society, installation, as well as testing, inspection, and maintenance.



Partner Sought We are seeking a shipowner or operator willing to test the technology on a suitable vessel under real-world conditions. The partner should provide a vessel for retrofitting, be responsible for the necessary modifications and installation, and manage day-to-day operations. To be eligible for funding under the CEF Transport Call, the vessel must also have a gross tonnage (GT) of at least 2,000 and regularly call at a TEN-T port.
