Many wind permits in the first four months too

Last year's approval momentum for onshore wind energy is continuing this spring, according to the German Wind and Solar Agency.
Around 6,000 MW of new wind energy capacity was approved in the first four months - an increase of 10 percent compared to the same period in 2025. At an average of 17 months, the duration of the approval procedures completed so far this year is at the same level as in 2025. The gross addition of new wind energy capacity reached a good 1,100 MW at the end of March - 9 percent above the figure in last year's first quarter.
Decommissioning figures also increased significantly in spring. Around 240 MW of old wind turbine capacity was taken off the grid between January and March, which is almost 40 percent more than last spring.
The development of ground-mounted solar energy was once again very dynamic in the first three months of this year. At almost 2,000 MW, a new record was set for a first quarter, which corresponds to an increase of 12% compared to the same period last year. Regionally, the expansion continues to dominate in Bavaria and Brandenburg in particular. However, regions in the north are also recording strong growth.
