Trend Radar Energy 2025

18.12.2025

Trends are the compass of the energy sector. In the Energy and Construction Innovation Network at Bayern Innovativ, we work with experts from business, science and intermediaries to pool their knowledge in order to actively shape the energy world of tomorrow. In close cooperation with Innovation Management, the Energy and Construction Innovation Network developed the Energy Trend Radar for the energy sector for the first time in 2021.

Basic idea and implementation of the energy trend radar

The aim is to strategically process trend-based influences on the energy sector, as well as a perspective survey to analyze discrepancies and consistencies between different survey groups. Based on this, discussion points for future topics and focal points in the energy sector are to be identified and individual conclusions drawn with the aim of networking and supporting companies in Bavaria even better.

In order to visualize changes in the dynamics of individual trends, the radar and the corresponding specialist article have been updated at regular intervals ever since:

  • 2021: In the first edition, 61 trends were processed and evaluated according to the STEEP logic (socio-cultural, technological, economic, ecological, political).
  • 2023: With the first update, the collection expanded to 63 trends, including the trends "nuclear fusion" and "diversification of the energy mix".
  • 2025: For the second update, the trends were again reviewed, condensed and supplemented. Some trends were merged and new trends were added, so that the current edition comprises 59 trends. This year's Trend Radar Energy was expanded to include the trends "Efforts to further develop battery technologies", "Carbon capture technologies", "Vocational training needs in transition", "Green finance" and "Resilient infrastructures".

Interactive trend radar Energy 2025

The interactive Trend Radar Energy 2025 shows you the evaluations of the overall perspective - i.e. the average ratings of all survey participants. You can work interactively with the tool, for example by jumping to specific trend segments or displaying trend descriptions and background information on individual trends (by clicking on the trends).

The Energy Trend Radar is an innovation management tool for the Bavarian energy sector from the field of trend scouting. The assessments of the trends are based on a qualitative expert survey and are not a representative survey of industry opinion, but enable industry players to draw their own conclusions with regard to individual business activities and to develop sustainable strategies.

Publication on the Energy Trend Radar 2025

A presentation of the results of the Energy Trend Radar can be found in the publications. In addition to the trend overview including a trend description, the specialist articles contain a number of derivations and highlight the trend dynamics over the period of the survey. In addition to the evaluation of the trends, the specialist article on the Energy Trend Radar 2025 contains the classification of selected trends by industry experts in the context of the energy sector.
