Defense Industry: 115 Million Euros for Rapid Innovation

The Enterprise Europe Network announces:

October 12, 2026

In the future, disruptive defense technologies are set to move more quickly from the lab to practical application. To this end, the EU has established the Program for Agile, Rapid Innovation in the Defense Sector (AGILE) and allocated 115 million euros to it.

A brief overview of AGILE:
  • Focus on SMEs and startups: The program is aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including startups and scale-ups.
  • Rapid Funding: Four months are allocated for the approval of financial grants. New technologies are expected to be deployed by the armed forces within one to three years.
  • Financial Support: The plan is to fund 20 to 30 projects. Up to 100 percent of eligible costs may be covered. Expenses incurred up to three months before the application deadline may be claimed retroactively.
  • Two Focus Areas: Funding will support the mission-oriented development of new defense equipment and technologies, as well as their market introduction.

AGILE is expected to be fully operational by early 2027. The European Commission is currently preparing for its implementation; the program will be monitored and evaluated by the Council and the European Parliament.
