Chris Eckstein is a research fellow at the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration (IZM) in Berlin, Germany. As part of the Sustainable Networks and Computing Group he is active in applied research in environmental assessment of ICT systems. 

With a focus on semiconductor fabrication and data centers he is conducting, harmonising and standardising lifecycle impact assessment methodologies, in the pursuit of a more circular economy with digital product passports (DPPs) and digital twins entering the industry.

He has a background in environmental sciences and received his PhD in Technologies for Nanosystems, Bioengineering and Energy from the University of Rovira i Virgili, Tarragona, Spain for research on nanoarchitectures for optical sensing systems. He gained further experience in the field of nano-ecotoxicology and environmental compliance management.
