Prof. Jacob is a neurologist and neurophysiologist. His research focuses on the cellular and network mechanisms that give rise to cognitive brain functions. Based on his research findings, Prof. Jacob develops technologies that can help improve the treatment of disorders affecting complex brain functions such as perception, memory, and language.

Prof. Jacob studied medicine as a scholarship recipient of the German National Academic Foundation at the Universities of Freiburg and Heidelberg, as well as at University College London (UK) and Harvard University (USA). He earned his Ph.D. in 2006 with an experimental neurophysiological thesis completed at Yale University (USA). Prof. Jacob subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Integrative Neurosciences at the University of Tübingen and completed his residency in neurology at the University Medical Center Tübingen and at Charité Berlin. Prof. Jacob has been at TUM since 2015, where he established an interdisciplinary research group focused on cognitive brain mechanisms and was appointed to the Chair of Translational Neurotechnology in 2019.
