Jürgen Grötsch completed his studies in geology at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg in 1991 with a doctorate, following stays abroad in Vienna and San Diego, California.

He worked for 31 years in the energy sector at Shell International E&P worldwide, including in the Middle East, Asia and America.

He has been a lecturer in geo-energy at Friedrich-Alexander University for more than 15 years, where he contributed to the establishment of the Master's program in geo-energy/geothermal energy. Since 2023, he has headed the new Natural Hydrogen team there, which deals with the exploration and development of new energy resources.

The recent discoveries of natural hydrogen in northern and eastern Bavaria have attracted worldwide interest and led to the spin-off of the start-up Tellus Energie Solutions GmbH, which is now driving further development in northern Bavaria.
