Prof. Dr. Christian Seidel

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Seidel has been at Munich University of Applied Sciences since September 2019 and holds the Chair of Manufacturing Technologies with a focus on additive manufacturing. He has headed the Smart Manufacturing Lab since 2021 and has been Deputy Head of the Bavarian Doctoral Center for Materials and Production Technology since March 2024.
From 2014 to 2024, he worked at the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, including as Head of Research Additive Manufacturing and Head of Strategy and Institute Development at Fraunhofer IGCV. In 2023, he received the Joerg Lenz Connection Point Award and a Recognition of Excellence for his research on multi-material additive manufacturing.
Prof. Seidel is an expert in standardization for additive manufacturing and was a member of ISO from 2012 to 2023 and Chairman of ISO TC 261 from 2019 to 2023. He has received awards from German, Swiss and American institutions and is a member of the Bavarian Expert Panel for Additive Manufacturing and the ASTM Executive Committee F42.
He holds a PhD in powder bed fusion from the Technical University of Munich (TUM), where he also served on the steering committee of the Institute for Machine Tools and Industrial Management. His industrial experience includes positions at Gebr. Heller Maschinenfabrik GmbH and MTU Aero Engines before joining Fraunhofer in 2014.
