Torsional Ultrasonic Welding

Ultrasonic Metal Welding Using Linear, SONIQTWIST®, and PowerWheel® Technologies

Technology Description

Ultrasonic metal welding is frequently used to create material-bonded joints between electrical conductors and contact parts made of copper or aluminum, including those coated with nickel, silver, and gold. It enables durable joints at temperatures below the melting points of the materials. The welding process takes between 0.3 and 3 seconds and has only a minimal effect on the microstructure of the materials; it is classified as a cold-press welding process according to DIN 1910.

Customer Benefit

  • Torsional sonotrode motion: minimal stress, ideal for sensitive applications (films, electronics).
  • PowerWheel®: Up to 30% narrower/taller welds, saving material and space.
  • Strong joints for copper and aluminum wires (70–160 mm²).

Core Competencies

  • Torsional welding: minimizes stress on components and achieves higher energy densities.
  • Minimal stress: ideal for sensitive applications (films, fabrics, electronics).
  • PowerWheel®: precise energy input for non-ferrous metals.
  • Welds: up to 30% narrower/taller with high strength for thick joints.
