Profile
The Chair of Forming Technology and Foundry Engineering at the Technical University of Munich, Garching Campus, deals with the two important manufacturing technologies in research and teaching. The combination is unique in this form in the German research landscape and thus provides the basis for implementing interesting transfer and synergy projects. The premises in the chair's orientation are the equal focus on industry-oriented and process chain-oriented problem solutions as well as basic research in production engineering.
With about 35 doctoral students and a very well-equipped pilot plant, the chair in the field of forming technology deals primarily with issues of sheet metal forming and the associated non-cutting separation processes with a focus on automotive applications. In the foundry competence area, research focuses on molding materials for core-intensive permanent mold casting or core package processes, composite continuous casting, destructive and non-destructive measurement of residual stresses, and tooling technology for die casting and permanent mold casting. The chair's annual third-party funding is between 2.5 and 3 million euros.
