Information

The Laboratory for High Voltage Technology at the THWS in Schweinfurt has equipment and expertise that are outstanding in the German university sector. Important features are

  • the shielded high-voltage hall with test facilities for 500 kV AC (Fig. 1), 800 kV DC and 1000 kV BIL/SIL
  • several variable test cells with high-voltage kits up to 200 kV and
  • a technology, materials and diagnostics laboratory.

The competence of the high-voltage laboratory extends to the entire field of high-voltage technology and is documented, among other things, by the publication of the leading German technical book. Special fields of work are the internal insulation in transformers and bushings, especially for HVDC applications.   Special technological experience concerns materials (oil, paper, board, resin) as well as diagnostics, monitoring, pulse technology and industrial applications of high voltage technology.

Profile

The high-voltage laboratory has optimal equipment for testing technology (500 kV AC, 800 kV DC, 1000 kV BIL/SIL), diagnostics and insulating material technology. There is outstanding expertise in insulation systems for high-voltage DC transmission and AC and pulse technology, e.g. in transformers and in bushings, as well as in numerous industrial applications. The laboratory is used in the education/training of engineers, in research and for services.
