Profile

The goal of the Institute of Toxicology's work is to elucidate the role of chemical pollutants in the development of complex diseases: Many diseases, such as cancer or disorders of the cardiovascular system, can be caused by the interaction of environmental stresses, genetic disposition and individual life history. Research into the mechanisms of action of chemicals should provide fundamental insights into signaling chains and genetically determined programs whose disruption leads to the development of diseases. These insights will form the basis for the development of better strategies to detect, quantify and reduce health risks.
