The Foreign Trade Center Bavaria (AWZ), based in Nuremberg, was opened on January 10, 2001 with the aim of supporting small and medium-sized companies in opening up new foreign markets.

The AWZ is a joint initiative of the Bavarian Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHKs) and the Bavarian Chambers of Skilled Crafts. The AWZ is run by BIHK Service GmbH, which was founded by the Bavarian IHKs.

The AWZ is financially supported by SMP-COSME funds.
