Regiothek GmbH

The company “Regiothek” began as a project at the Chair of Data Science at the University of Passau and was spun off as an independent GmbH in October 2018. The startup has set itself the goal of facilitating the exchange of information in the regional food sector using state-of-the-art platform technologies. Even the first publicly available prototype of the regiothek.de platform—with its unique selling point of product-specific supply chain visualization (making regionality traceable)—earned awards at the EU and federal levels.

Today, Regiothek is a multi-tenant SaaS platform with two main areas. “Visibility & Networking” makes businesses, products, and supply relationships visible nationwide. The B2B marketplace consolidates orders from multiple regional producers into a single delivery and a consolidated invoice. As middleware, Regiothek integrates existing inventory management and point-of-sale systems via manufacturer-neutral interfaces, without requiring businesses to switch their own systems.

Regiothek builds and operates the technology that simplifies regional food networks: making it easier to source regionally, easier to distribute regionally, and enabling the centralized management of logistics and billing.

To this end, Regiothek is a multi-tenant, vendor-neutral SaaS platform. Businesses can either work directly within the Regiothek interface or remain in their own systems via an interface to their inventory management or point-of-sale systems. Regiothek also functions as a data hub or middleware between cafeteria systems, inventory management, and logistics, enabling interoperability between otherwise separate systems. More than 3,000 businesses nationwide use the platform.
