Profile
For their astrophysical research, scientists at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics measure the radiation of distant objects in different spectral ranges: from millimeter/sub-millimeter, and infrared, to X-ray and gamma-ray wavelengths. The portion of the electromagnetic spectrum covered in this process spans more than twelve orders of magnitude.
Research at MPE uses instruments that the institute develops either on its own or, often in a leadership role, in collaboration with other institutions. Theorists, observers, experimenters, engineers, and technicians work closely together at MPE.
