Funding conditions

What is funded?

Funding is provided for the phase before and at the beginning of an innovative start-up, in particular the development of marketable, innovative products and business models as well as the preparation of the start-up.

Specifically, this includes support for those wishing to set up a business,

• in securing their innovative, including digital, business model, which could lead to a sustainable business start-up.
• who are unable to complete their start-up project within the framework of EXIST funding due to particular technological challenges and have not yet been able to found a company.
• whose technologically innovative, challenging and high-risk project was denied funding in the "EXIST-Gründerstipendium" program.

Projects can be considered that

• go beyond the state of the art or, in the case of digital business models, are sufficiently new,
• have clear unique selling points and
• have sufficient connectivity (positive continuation forecast).

State universities in Bavaria are eligible to apply. Applications are submitted via the technology transfer offices or the university's technology transfer officers.

The persons willing to found a company receive a grant.

• Scholarship for people wishing to set up a business: € 2,500 per month plus € 150 per dependent child
• Assumption of material expenses of the university in the amount of up to 50% of the scholarships awarded (You can find an overview of eligible and non-eligible material expenses in our FAQs)

The Bavarian university:

• must be integrated into a start-up support network,
• appoints a person for mentoring,
• provides the necessary resources (laboratories, workshops, rooms, computer centers and other infrastructures) free of charge and administers the funding.

The persons willing to found a company:

• must belong to the applicant university.
• If they are employed by the university, this employment may not exceed 50% of their time.
• If they are still students and do not yet have a Bachelor's degree, they must have completed at least half of the standard period of study and, if applicable, the mandatory practical semester/ semester abroad.
• Teams consisting mainly of students without a Bachelor's degree can only be supported in exceptional cases
• At least one of the persons wishing to found the company must be a holder or co-holder of the rights of use/protection.
• are responsible for their own social security and other contributions.
