The symposium provides a structured overview of the transformation from software-defined vehicles to AI-defined vehicles and highlights the specific implications for companies.

On the Path to the AI-Defined Vehicle - The Next Stage in the Evolution of Mobility
Artificial intelligence is becoming a key design factor here - it shapes not only individual functions, but also the vehicle’s architecture, overall behavior, decision-making logic, and user experience.
The vehicle of the future is no longer a static product, but a learning, data-driven system. It understands its environment, anticipates situations, and continuously adapts to users and usage contexts. This fundamentally shifts our understanding - toward intelligent, connected platforms.

What does this transformation mean for companies in concrete terms? What technological and organizational changes are necessary? And what new opportunities are emerging along the value chain?

The symposium provides guidance during this critical phase of transformation.
It brings together stakeholders from industry, suppliers, technology, and research, offering a well-founded analysis and practical insights into the evolution toward the AI-Defined Vehicle.
The focus is on:
• the role of AI as a central architecture and control level
• new vehicle functions enabled by learning, data-driven systems
• impacts on development, organization, and business models
• specific challenges and implementation issues in practice

Join leading experts in a discussion on how the vehicle - and thus the entire automotive industry - is redefining itself.

In the context of AI-Defined Products, the traditional phases of development, production, and use are dissolving. Furthermore, a strategically implemented circular economy contributes to the autonomy and “survivability” of our companies. The presentation explores visions of the Data & Software-Defined Enterprise in the circular economy, as well as the Circular Software-/AI-Defined Vehicle.

From Data to Scalable Intelligence: Building the AI Development Backbone for Vehicles

Ein Mann in einem Anzugjackett mit Bart steht vor neutralem Hintergrund. Vortragsredner / Amazon Web Services,
Varun Kumar
Sr. Software Architect, Amazon Web Services

Most AI-powered vehicle programs have a compelling vision. Only a very few have the necessary infrastructure to bring that vision to life.

After 20 years in the automotive industry—from Bosch engine management control units to Infineon SoC architectures to cloud-native AV platforms at AWS—the speaker has observed this pattern from both sides of the coin. The V-model has brought us safety, traceability, and predictability. However, it was not designed for software that learns. And it is precisely this conflict of objectives—between the precision required by ISO 26262 and SOTIF and the speed of iteration demanded by AI—that is now gradually bringing numerous programs to a standstill across the industry.

This presentation openly addresses this tension and points to a concrete solution.

The backbone that connects these two worlds consists of five building blocks:

  • the structured collection of multimodal sensor data,
  • AI-supported scenario discovery to filter rare, safety-critical events from petabytes of everyday driving data,
  • model training at the cloud-scale level with end-to-end traceability from the dataset to the model,
  • a closed-loop fleet feedback system that turns the vehicle into a continuously learning system,
  • as well as governance and cross-tier (X-Tier) collaboration, which are architecturally embedded from the outset—rather than being added later to comply with regulatory requirements.

The presentation concludes with the three key decisions that distinguish successful production projects from stagnant initiatives: where the actual proprietary AI competitive advantage (AI Moat) truly lies, why the data strategy must necessarily come before the model strategy, and how the software development life cycle (SDLC) can be restructured without dismantling the safety culture that has evolved over decades.

Concrete, practical, and tailored for executives who need to transform a strategic roadmap into a concrete action plan for Monday morning.

Embedded Intelligence [EI] for Real-Time Junction Temperature Estimation and Control

Porträt von Dr. Francesco Toso Dr. Francesco Toso / Newtwen,

Accurate estimation of semiconductor junction temperature is essential for maximizing the performance, reliability, and lifetime of modern power electronic converters. However, direct measurement of junction temperature is impractical in production systems, forcing designers to rely on indirect sensing methods and conservative thermal margins that limit power density and utilization. This article presents a firmware-based Virtual Thermal Sensor (VTS) jointly developed by Newtwen and Infineon that enables real-time estimation of individual switch junction temperatures using only signals already available in the inverter controller. The proposed approach combines reduced-order electrothermal models, manufacturer characterization data, and an embedded artificial intelligence correction layer to create a computationally efficient digital twin capable of adapting to varying operating conditions, cooling effectiveness, manufacturing variability, and device aging. Experimental validation on an Infineon power module demonstrates junction-temperature estimation within ±5 °C of infrared thermography under a wide range of electrical and thermal conditions, including scenarios with degraded cooling and variations in device-to-device parameters. The embedded implementation executes in less than 100 μs within a 1 ms control loop while requiring less than 40 kB of memory, making it suitable for standard automotive microcontrollers. Beyond real-time thermal protection, the VTS enables thermal-aware control strategies, fault detection, and improved remaining-useful-life estimation by providing accurate junction-temperature histories. The proposed solution demonstrates that embedded virtual sensing can significantly reduce conservative thermal margins, enabling higher converter performance without compromising reliability.
