100 percent green power, 5,000 photovoltaic systems: the Schwarz Group sets ambitious goals for the expansion of renewable energies.
The Schwarz Group, with its Lidl and Kaufland brands, is expanding its activities in terms of climate protection and energy transition. Already since the beginning of the 2022 financial year, the globally active company only obtains electricity from renewable energy. Now one wants to set also with the own electricity production with Photovoltaik surfaces a clear indication.
As it says in a message from the company headquarters in the Baden-Wuerttemberg Neckarsulm, approximately 3,700 new solar plants are to be installed on or at buildings of the Schwarz Group up to the financial year 2025. More than 1,600 of these will be in Germany. Thus, the group will increase the number of its photovoltaic systems to 5,000 with a combined capacity of 700 MW.
According to the company, its own electricity generation through renewable energies amounted to around 130 million kWh in fiscal 2020. This is an increase of 63% relative to the previous year and is enough to supply more than 30,000 households. The area of the group's photovoltaic plants is stated to be around one million square meters, an increase of around 260,000 square meters.
