New Eurobarometer survey shows record high level of trust in EU in recent years

According to the new Eurobarometer survey, confidence in the European Union is at its highest level since 2007 and support for the euro has never been higher. The latest survey also shows that Europeans are more optimistic about the future. They want a stronger and more independent EU, particularly in view of the current global challenges.

Here are some interesting figures:

  • 51% of Europeans express their trust in the EU - the best result since 2007.
  • 74% identify themselves as EU citizens - the highest figure for over two decades
  • 74% of Europeans in the EU as a whole and 81% of Europeans in the eurozone are in favor of the single currency, the euro, which is the highest approval rating ever.

Europeans want the EU to play an active role in various areas: security, migration, economy, climate and health are at the forefront. Securing peace and stability is particularly important to citizens. In the area of the environment, they focus on renewable energies and sustainable agriculture.

The background

The survey for the Standard Eurobarometer 102 (Autumn 2024) was conducted between October 10 and November 5, 2024 in all 27 EU member states. A total of 26,525 EU citizens were interviewed in person.
