IBU-tec Receives Key Approval for LFP Production Facility
The new facility is scheduled to begin operations in 2028

The chemical company IBU-tec has received a key permit for the construction of its new production facility for lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode materials in Bitterfeld-Wolfen. The facility is expected to reach an annual capacity of approximately 15,000 metric tons starting in 2028.
With this approval, construction work on the new plant buildings and a state-of-the-art laboratory for battery materials can continue. PowerCo, the battery division of the Volkswagen Group, has already been confirmed as the buyer of the entire production capacity for a period of ten years. IBU-tec plans to begin interim production at its Weimar site as early as this year.
The new facility is scheduled to begin operations in early 2028. LFP materials are used, among other things, in electric vehicle batteries and stationary energy storage systems.
