A guide from the German Energy Storage Systems Association (BVES) and the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) shows which electricity storage systems are economical for companies.
Rising energy costs, security of supply and climate targets pose major challenges for companies. As part of the transformation of their energy supply, electricity storage systems can be cost-effective solutions. To support companies in this transition, the German Energy Storage Systems Association (BVES) and the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) published a guide to the use of electricity storage systems in industry and commerce on April 25.
The guide is aimed specifically at companies that want to make their energy supply more efficient, secure and sustainable. Storage systems support the use of self-generated electricity, provide backup in the event of grid disruptions or help with the decarbonization strategy. The guide provides a compact overview of the technical principles, legal framework and economic opportunities of storage systems.
Examples in practice
Companies receive practical advice on grid connection, project implementation and business models. Numerous best-practice examples show how electricity storage systems are already being used successfully - from small businesses to industrial groups. According to the report, over 12,000 storage projects are already in use in German companies. They help to ensure a cost-efficient, reliable and renewable energy supply. "With this guide, we are providing companies with the knowledge they need to implement storage solutions strategically and economically," emphasized Urban Windelen, Managing Director of BVES.
"The market segment is growing by more than 20 percent every year," according to the BVES industry analysis. Nevertheless, many potentials have not yet been exhausted: many companies are still unaware of the economic benefits and the technical diversity of possible applications, according to the association. "Storage systems are a key link that can make renewable energy supply in companies even more economical," explains Sebastian Bolay, Head of Energy, Environment and Industry at the DIHK.
Suitable providers of storage solutions can be found in the new BVES member list , sorted according to fields of activity and applications. The storage guide is available to download free of charge.
