According to the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU), highly flexible biogas storage power plants can make an important contribution to a climate-neutral energy system.

This is the conclusion of a meta-study by the Chair of Energy Process Engineering, published in collaboration with the campaign “Biogas is the Future—Already Today 2.0.”

The authors recommend making existing biogas plants more flexible and significantly increasing the tender volume for biomass as part of the planned 2027 amendment to the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). This would allow biogas plants to supply electricity on demand in the future and balance out the fluctuating feed-in of wind and solar energy.
