Prof. Astrid Lambrecht has been chairman of the board and top manager of Forschungszentrum Jülich since August 1.
Quantum physicist Astrid Lambrecht has been awarded a five-year contract to head Forschungszentrum Jülich near Aachen. The 56-year-old succeeded Prof. Wolfgang Marquardt, who had led the center since 2014. Lamprecht is well acquainted with the research center. She has been a member of the board since 2021.
By her own account, her focus is on further development and modernization. "We are already well positioned with our strategic research topics of energy, information and sustainable bioeconomy."
Lambrecht, born in 1967 in Mülheim an der Ruhr, completed her physics studies in Essen and London. In 1995, she obtained her PhD in quantum physics at the Laboratoire Kastler Brossel (LKB) research institute in Paris. Her scientific career continued to postdoctoral studies at the Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris in 2002.
Prior to her current position at Forschungszentrum Jülich, she headed the physics department at the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) in Paris from 2018. With around 7,200 employees in eleven institutes and 80 institute divisions, Forschungszentrum Jülich, as a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, is one of the largest research institutions in Europe.
