cylib Takes Over Battery Recycling Plant in Bavaria
The battery recycling company cylib is expanding its network and acquiring a facility in Wernberg-Köblitz. The facility is scheduled to begin operations in late 2026.

The battery recycling company cylib has acquired a facility in Wernberg-Köblitz, Bavaria, for the discharge, disassembly, and mechanical processing of used batteries.
The facility has an annual capacity of up to 10,000 metric tons of end-of-life batteries and is scheduled to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2026 following modernization, subject to regulatory approval.
With this facility, cylib is expanding its value chain in battery recycling. In Bavaria, used batteries will be processed into black mass, which will then be further processed into raw materials such as lithium, graphite, nickel, cobalt, and manganese at the hydrometallurgical plant currently under construction in Dormagen.
According to the company, the acquisition strengthens the European circular economy and secures access to battery materials from the German automotive market. The facility is expected to reach full capacity by the end of 2027.

Founded in Aachen in 2022, cylib emerged from research at RWTH Aachen University and develops processes for recycling lithium-ion batteries. The company is currently establishing an integrated recycling network in Germany, with research and development in Aachen, a hydrometallurgical processing plant in Dormagen, and the disassembly and mechanical processing of used batteries in Bavaria. According to the company, its water-based OLiC technology enables the recovery of over 90 percent of the raw materials contained in the batteries, with a significantly reduced carbon footprint compared to primary mining.
