The Institute of Energy Technology (IfE) at the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Amberg-Weiden has published a new white paper on municipal energy management.

The guide is designed to help municipalities systematically record energy consumption, identify potential savings and establish sustainable energy management structures.

The background to this is rising energy costs, increasing regulatory requirements and scarce personnel resources in cities and municipalities. According to the IfE, structured energy management is increasingly becoming the basis of municipal climate protection strategies and municipal heat planning.

The white paper is based on experience from numerous projects and describes typical challenges and tried-and-tested solutions. Among other things, it focuses on inventory analysis, energy controlling, the development of measures and the long-term consolidation of processes through to possible certification in accordance with the Kom.EMS quality standard.

The guide also shows how organizational structures can be set up and how individual municipal framework conditions can be taken into account. In addition to methodological principles, the publication contains specific recommendations for action and examples for the step-by-step development of municipal energy controlling.

"Energy management rarely fails in municipalities due to a lack of basic will, but often due to a lack of structures, responsibilities or data. This is precisely where a systematic approach comes in," explains the Institute of Energy Technology.

The white paper "Energy management for local authorities" is now available to download free of charge from the Institute of Energy Technology's website.
